The Gongola Peoples Forum has called on Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State to grant clemency to Sunday Jackson, a farmer sentenced to death after a Supreme Court ruling.

At a press conference in Yola, the forum’s national chairman, Markus Gundiri, described Jackson’s conviction as unjust, arguing that he acted in self-defense when attacked by a herder on his farm.

Jackson, who has spent nearly a decade in prison, was sentenced after the court ruled that he should have fled after disarming his attacker rather than using the weapon to defend himself.

“Jackson was unarmed and only fought to save his life. Yet, the law has treated him harshly,” Gundiri said.

The forum urged Governor Fintiri to use his constitutional powers to grant a state pardon, insisting that justice demands mercy in such cases.

With growing public interest in Jackson’s fate, all eyes are now on Governor Fintiri as the final decision rests in his hands.
