The Federal Government has announced plans to set up Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion centers and refuelling stations in 20 federal universities across Nigeria to promote clean energy and lower transportation costs for students and lecturers.

The initiative, driven by the Ministry of Education in partnership with the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF), and Femadec Energy, aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for affordable and sustainable energy.

According to a statement from the Presidency, six universities will have fully operational CNG facilities by May 29, 2025.

Education Minister Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa recently met with Vice-Chancellors and key stakeholders to finalize plans, stressing that the project will ease mobility costs and support Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy.
