The Bishop of Uyo and Bishop-Chairman for the laity, Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, Laity Office, Most Rev. John Ebebe Ayah, has called on Nigerians to take responsibility for the nation’s growth instead of seeking greener pastures abroad.
Speaking with ‘Abuja City Journal’ at the Second Joint All Catholic Knights Summit 2025 held at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Abuja, Bishop Ayah reflected on the global impact of migration.
He noted that while immigrants often take up low-paying jobs abroad, their absence could shake economies and force home countries to become self-reliant.
“Necessity is the mother of invention. If we stop relying on foreign lands, we will find ways to fix our own country,” he said.
The bishop urged Nigerians, especially leaders and influential figures, to create opportunities, drive innovation, and work towards national development instead of looking for shortcuts abroad.
