The National Inland Waterways Authority has called on private investors to support the development of Nigeria’s water transportation system, saying government efforts alone are not enough.

Chairman of the NIWA Board, Musa Sarkin Adar, made this appeal during a visit to the agency’s liaison office in Abuja.

He urged NIWA to actively engage private investors to modernize the sector.

He also advised the agency to phase out wooden boats to reduce accidents on the waterways.

He encouraged the Managing Director, Bola Oyebamiji, and his team to focus on building a lasting legacy that improves connectivity across states.

Oyebamiji commended the dedication of his team and reaffirmed NIWA’s commitment to advancing inland water transportation.
