A newlywed couple, Dozie and Joan Okoye, lost their lives in the devastating gas explosion on Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The couple, who got married on February 22, 2025, were on their way home when their phone lines suddenly became unreachable.

Hours of frantic searching led their loved ones to the Burns Center in Gbagada and the Yaba Mortuary, where their charred remains were eventually discovered.

The only clue to their identity was the registration number of their car, found among the burnt wreckage.

The explosion, which happened at 8:08 pm on Tuesday, March 11, was caused by a 30-tonne gas tanker reportedly owned by a nearby gas station.

The blast left De-Twist Dental Clinic badly damaged, while the generator house and security post of a nearby church also suffered extensive destruction.

Emergency responders have so far recovered four charred bodies, including that of an auto mechanic identified as Rotimi Adeleye.
