President Bola Tinubu has approved the upgrade of Maiduguri Airport to international status, aligning with Nigeria’s goal of having at least one international airport in each geopolitical zone.

Presidential aide Sunday Dare announced the approval on Thursday via his verified X handle, highlighting its impact on regional connectivity and economic growth.

With this upgrade, Maiduguri joins Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, Enugu, and Uyo as key international aviation hubs in Nigeria.

Dare also confirmed the official launch of the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), in Abuja, a milestone in advancing aviation and aerospace education in the country.
