The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has begun disbursing N300 million in scholarships to 16,225 indigenous and indigent students in public schools for the 2023/2024 academic session.

At the event in Abuja on Thursday, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, represented by his Chief of Staff, Chide Amadi, acknowledged the overwhelming demand for financial aid but assured continued government support for education and teachers’ welfare.

Mandate Secretary of the Education Secretariat, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, noted that the FCTA has invested over N230 billion in school infrastructure.

FCT Scholarship Board Director, Mrs. Hannah David, revealed that 146,000 students— including those in special needs schools and foreign institutions—have benefited from the scheme since 2020.

The initiative aligns with Wike’s push for FCT schools to compete in global science contests and expand vocational training for students, youths, and out-of-school children.
