The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), in Kwara State has raised alarm over targeted killings of its leaders, revealing that four of its members have been assassinated in recent months.
The latest victim, MACBAN’s state chairman, Alhaji Idris Abubakar, was ambushed and murdered outside his home in Oke-Oyi, Ilorin, after months of threats from criminals.
“Our chairman was a warrior against kidnappers and crime,” said MACBAN’s state secretary, Mallam Abdulazeez Mohammed.
“He was warned to stop interfering in their activities or be killed. Sadly, they carried out their threats.”
MACBAN lamented that Abubakar’s murder followed the killings of three other Fulani leaders who were vocal against crime, suggesting a deliberate attack on those fighting insecurity.
Alhaji Ojonla Mahmud, another Fulani leader, has urged security agencies to track down the culprits and called on the Kwara State government to support Abubakar’s family, especially in educating his children.
Despite the rising tensions, MACBAN has appealed for calm, urging Fulani communities to cooperate with security forces in tackling criminal activities.
