IGP Bans Public Parading of Suspects, Cites Human Rights Violations

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has reinforced the ban on publicly parading criminal suspects before formal charges are filed, citing human rights concerns and global best practices.

In a directive issued Monday and signed by Force PRO ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP ordered all police commands to comply with the standing order, emphasizing the need to uphold human dignity.

The Nigeria Police Force also urged the media to adhere to ethical reporting standards, stressing its commitment to lawful and transparent law enforcement practices.
