Federal University Lokoja (FUL), has reopened after a three-week shutdown triggered by a student protest over a fatal truck accident that claimed five lives.

The institution, closed since February 20, resumed operations on Tuesday, March 11, following an emergency Senate meeting.

Lectures are set to commence on Monday, March 17, according to a statement by Dr. Rebecca Okojie, the university’s Registrar and Secretary of Council.

The protest erupted after students threatened to block the Abuja-Lokoja Highway, demanding action on road safety following the tragedy.

University authorities cited extensive consultations and safety reassurances as key factors in the decision to reopen.
