The House of Representatives has issued a stern warning to the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), threatening his arrest over alleged violations of building regulations in Abuja.
During an investigative hearing on the rising cases of building collapses in the FCT, the House Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), accused the FCTA of negligence and failure to enforce building codes, endangering lives.
Committee Chairman, Rep. Abdullahi Hassan, criticized the FCTA for prioritizing revenue generation over public safety, warning that if the executive secretary failed to provide a detailed action plan within two weeks, the House would invoke its powers to compel compliance.
The investigation is ongoing, with more stakeholders expected to testify as lawmakers push for stricter enforcement of building regulations to prevent further tragedies.
