The Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, will hear the legal challenge filed by Mudashiru Obasa, the reinstated Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, against former Speaker Mojisola Meranda and other lawmakers on March 17, 2025.
Obasa, who was removed on January 13, 2025, is contesting his ouster, which was based on allegations of fraud, abuse of power, and gross misconduct leveled against him by 35 lawmakers.
During a previous hearing on March 10, the case was adjourned after Obasa’s legal team submitted additional affidavits, prompting defense lawyers, including Femi Falana (SAN), and Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), to request time to respond.
Justice Yetunde Pinheiro ruled that all pending motions, including those challenging the court’s jurisdiction, will be addressed at the next hearing.
Although Obasa was reinstated following intervention from APC leadership, his decision to proceed with the lawsuit signals lingering tensions within the Assembly.
