The Senate has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to conduct by-elections to fill the vacant senatorial seats in Edo Central and Anambra South.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio issued the directive during Tuesday’s plenary, emphasizing the urgency of restoring representation in the affected districts.
The Edo Central seat became vacant after Monday Okpebholo was sworn in as Edo State Governor in December 2024, while the Anambra South seat has remained unoccupied since the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in July 2024.
INEC had previously expressed readiness to hold the elections but awaited an official Senate request.
With this directive now in place, the electoral body is expected to announce a schedule soon, ensuring that constituents regain their voices in the legislature.
