Lagos State has announced the release of Makemation, Africa’s first artificial intelligence-driven feature film, set to premiere in cinemas nationwide on April 18, 2025, during Easter Weekend.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a statement on Sunday, described the film as a cultural milestone that underscores the power of youth—particularly young girls—in leveraging AI and technology to solve pressing societal challenges.
A coming-of-age drama, Makemation follows the journey of a brilliant young girl from a low-income Lagos neighborhood who overcomes adversity through resilience and innovation.
The film blends entertainment with a powerful message of hope, illustrating how technology can be a tool for transformation.
Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Lagos’ creative industry, stating that projects like Makemation position the state as Africa’s leading arts and innovation hub.
Starring Nollywood icons such as Richard Mofe-Damijo, Tony Umez, Shaffy Bello, Ibrahim Chatta, Toyin Afolayan, and Ali Nuhu, Makemation promises an engaging exploration of AI’s impact on human experiences, bridging technology and storytelling like never before.
