The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has dismissed a media report alleging that it indicted the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), in counterfeit drug distribution, calling it a gross misrepresentation of facts.

NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, in a strongly worded statement on Sunday, clarified that her March 1 interview was twisted to create a false narrative.

She stated that her remarks were intended to explain the distinct roles of NAFDAC and PCN in pharmaceutical regulation—not to accuse PCN of wrongdoing.

“The report is misleading and damages the collaborative efforts between NAFDAC and PCN in safeguarding public health,” Prof. Adeyeye stated, condemning the sensationalized headline.

She emphasized that her comments on past regulatory gaps were taken out of context and urged the media outlet to retract the false claim and issue a public apology.

Should they fail to do so, she warned, NAFDAC would take appropriate legal action to address the misinformation.
