Prominent lawyer Alexander Oketa has petitioned EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, accusing the agency’s operatives of unlawfully seizing a prime Abuja property in defiance of multiple court rulings.
The disputed land, Plot 680-689 in Mabushi, is at the center of a six-year legal battle between Jona Brothers Construction Limited and Chief Michael Adeojo, owner of Elizade Motors.
In his March 7, 2025 petition, Oketa alleged that EFCC officials, led by Olayinka Macaulay, illegally padlocked the site, halted construction, and threatened arrests—despite a 2023 FCT High Court judgment affirming Jona Brothers’ ownership and restraining the EFCC from interfering.
He further claimed the EFCC acted on a secret interim forfeiture order from Justice Nwite of the Federal High Court, obtained without notifying Jona Brothers or publishing the order as required.
“EFCC officers have become a cartel, aiding Chief Adeojo, who has lost repeatedly in court.
“This is a blatant abuse of power,” Oketa declared, demanding the immediate unsealing of the property within 48 hours.
He warned of legal escalations, including petitions to the National Judicial Council, National Assembly, and human rights bodies, if the EFCC fails to comply.
The anti-graft agency has yet to respond, as the case raises concerns over judicial overreach, property rights, and alleged misconduct within law enforcement.
