A routine Police Patrol in Abuja turned into a high-speed chase and dramatic crash on Friday evening, leaving a police officer seriously injured.
The incident unfolded around 6:00 p.m. along the Gwarinpa-Kubwa service lane when officers from the Crack Squad, led by ASP Segun Ozioma Edene, stopped a Toyota Venza (GWA 151 BM) and discovered suspected Indian hemp and other illicit drugs inside the vehicle.
However, the driver, 25-year-old Ahmed Abdul, defied orders to reposition his car and sped off with Inspector Raphael Oghalla still inside.
A chaotic pursuit ensued before Abdul lost control and crashed into a gutter.
While he escaped with minor injuries, Inspector Oghalla suffered serious chest wounds and is currently receiving treatment at the Police Clinic in Area 1, Garki.
Authorities have impounded the vehicle, and Abdul remains in custody as investigations continue.
