Dr. Doyin Okupe, a prominent Nigerian physician, politician, and former presidential aide, has died at the age of 72.

Family sources confirmed that Okupe had been critically ill in recent weeks, with his health deteriorating despite medical interventions.

He had battled cancer for 16 years, initially diagnosed with prostate cancer before later developing sarcoma in his right shoulder.

He served as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Olusegun Obasanjo and later as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan.
