The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA-FCT) has urged the National Assembly to address the worsening welfare crisis pushing doctors out of Nigeria amid the ongoing “Japa syndrome.”
Speaking during a visit to Dr. Adesola Adedayo, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Health and Social Welfare, NMA-FCT Chairman, Dr. Emeka Ayogu, warned that poor working conditions and inadequate pay were fueling the mass exodus of healthcare professionals.
Ayogu called for urgent reforms to improve salaries, incentives, and working conditions, stressing that recent doctors’ strikes underscore the severity of the situation.
In response, Adedayo assured that legislative efforts were underway to prioritize doctors’ welfare, urging unity within the sector to drive lasting reforms.
