President Bola Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on his 88th birthday, acknowledging his pivotal role in Nigeria’s history while describing him as a statesman whose influence has shaped the nation’s political landscape.
In a personally signed message, Tinubu lauded Obasanjo’s unwavering commitment to national unity, his strategic interventions in governance, and his continued impact on Africa’s political and diplomatic affairs.
“Providence has constantly thrust General Obasanjo to the forefront at critical junctures in Nigeria’s story,” Tinubu noted, highlighting Obasanjo’s roles in ending the civil war, steering Nigeria’s transition to democracy in 1979, and leading the country again as a civilian president from 1999 to 2007.
While acknowledging the former leader’s sometimes controversial nature, Tinubu praised his enduring statesmanship and expressed prayers for his continued strength and wisdom.
“At 88, he remains a formidable force, offering guidance and insight. May God grant him more years of impactful service,” Tinubu concluded.
Obasanjo, a two-time leader of Nigeria, remains an influential voice in national and international affairs, with his legacy spanning military rule, democracy, and global peacekeeping.
