As Nigerians mark Ash Wednesday, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has urged citizens to use the Lenten season as a time for reflection, sacrifice, and national healing, despite the economic and security challenges facing the country.

In a statement signed by CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the Christian body encouraged Nigerians of all faiths to rise above hardship, embrace prayer, charity, and renewal, and work toward a united and just nation.

“Lent is a 40-day journey that calls us to look beyond our struggles and find strength in faith and community.

“This season resonates with the patience of mothers stretching meals, fathers toiling under the sun, and children praying for a brighter future,” Okoh said.

Addressing the rising cost of living and insecurity, CAN urged Nigerians to use the Lenten period to seek peace, share resources with neighbors, and support one another.

The association also called for prayers for the nation’s leaders, urging them to govern with wisdom and compassion.

“Lent is an opportunity to release bitterness, embrace unity, and work for a Nigeria where justice and dignity prevail,” Okoh added.

CAN emphasized that the spirit of sacrifice and endurance, deeply rooted in the lives of ordinary Nigerians, should inspire all to contribute to national renewal.

As the Lenten journey begins, CAN urged all Nigerians, regardless of creed, to embrace this season as a time for transformation, hope, and collective progress.
