A high-stakes proposal has been submitted to position Kwali as the capital of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), once it attains state status, sparking intense debate among stakeholders.

The Etsu of Kwali, Mr. Luka Nizassan III, revealed on Wednesday that the recommendation was included in the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution.

He highlighted Kwali’s strong educational infrastructure, including the National Educational Research and Development Council, the National Mathematical Centre, Sheda Science and Technology, and the National Seed Council, as a compelling justification for the move.

Nizassan also urged the Federal Government to site the newly approved FCT Federal Polytechnic in Kwali, offering the Federal Technical College, Kwali, as a temporary location.

He emphasized that Kwali’s landmass and infrastructure make it a prime candidate for the proposed state capital, reinforcing its historical role as the FCT’s educational hub.
