A prolonged power outage in Daki Biyu, Jabi District, Abuja, has crippled businesses and plunged residents into distress, following the breakdown of four key transformers.

The blackout, which has lasted for weeks, stems from faulty transformers at 44 Junction, Mango Tree, Market, and White House.

Despite confirming the issue, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has yet to provide a solution.

Businesses, including salons, restaurants, pharmacies, and fashion shops, remain shut.

Madam Favour, a restaurant owner, lamented food spoilage and soaring fuel costs: “If I keep buying fuel daily, I won’t pay my staff. We need urgent help.” A frustrated hair stylist blamed illegal connections for the crisis, asking, “How long must we suffer?”

Residents also struggle with extreme discomfort. New father Uchechukwu Uwalaka described sleepless nights as his newborn suffers in the heat: “My baby cries constantly—no light means no fan. Authorities must act now.”

While AEDC claims the issue has been escalated, no repair timeline has been provided. The crisis underscores Abuja’s fragile power infrastructure and the urgent need for lasting solutions.
