The Lagos Safety Commission has called on vehicle owners to embrace Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), as a safer and more cost-effective alternative to petrol and diesel.

The commission made the appeal on Monday while launching a three-day training for Vehicle Inspection and Safety Commission Officers on the CNG initiative.

Speaking at the event in Ikeja, Director General of the Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, said the move aligns with the government’s clean energy transition strategy.

He noted that Lagos had already adopted CNG buses and e-bikes, stressing the need to train officials to ensure road safety.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Sesan Ogundeko, highlighted the benefits of CNG-powered vehicles, including lower transport costs, reduced carbon emissions, and improved air quality.

However, he urged stakeholders to expand CNG refueling stations for wider accessibility.

The event also had in attendance Gbenga Vaughan, representing the Director, Chief State Vehicle Inspection Officer, Akin-George Fashola, alongside other key officials.
