Abuja Set for 13th ECOWAS African Wrestling Tournament

Abuja is set to host the 13th ECOWAS African Wrestling Tournament from March 6-8, 2025, at the Velodrome, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, as part of ECOWAS’ 50th anniversary celebrations.

At least 11 ECOWAS member states have arrived for the competition, featuring 55 athletes across various weight categories.

Participating countries include Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, and host nation Nigeria.

The tournament will showcase both individual and team events, with female wrestlers competing in the 65kg and 75kg categories, while male athletes battle in the 85kg, 100kg, and 120kg divisions. A total cash prize of $24,000 is at stake.

Hosting the tournament for the first time, Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC), has assured seamless organization, with security and logistics finalized to ensure a smooth and successful competition.
