Run clubs in Abuja have strongly condemned the recently held ECOWAS Anniversary Half Marathon, citing poor organization, neglect of local runners, and unfulfilled promises.

Representatives from various running groups decried the event’s lack of proper hydration, inadequate safety measures, and a late start, which forced participants to race under intense heat.

“This event failed local runners in every way,” a representative stated. “If organizers want credibility, they must engage with the running community and deliver a well-planned race.”

The clubs have called on the event organizers to take full responsibility and ensure better planning, communication, and support for participants in future editions.
