The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened mass action if the Federal Government proceeds with the planned telecom tariff hike, warning that any further increase in electricity tariffs will be fiercely resisted.
Following a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, the NLC ordered its affiliates to prepare for decisive protests should the government renege on the terms agreed by the 10-man committee overseeing the telecom tariff review.
Denouncing what it described as “economic violence” against Nigerians, the congress also condemned the reclassification of electricity consumers, calling it a ploy to impose unjustified costs on the masses.
With inflation soaring and wages stagnant, the NLC vowed to mobilize nationwide resistance against policies that worsen economic hardship, urging all industrial unions and progressive allies to remain on high alert.
