The Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has declared that she remains undeterred by death threats from criminal networks profiting from counterfeit drugs.
Speaking in Abuja over the weekend, Adeyeye revealed that the threats followed NAFDAC’s sweeping operations targeting major fake drug hubs in Kano, Idumota, Yaba, and Onitsha.
While the crackdown has been completed in some locations, enforcement continues in Onitsha.
She also announced the blacklisting of an Indian pharmaceutical company for producing and exporting a dangerous opioid mix—Tapentadol and Carisoprodol—known as Tafrodol or Royal 225.
Reaffirming her push for stiffer penalties against counterfeit drug manufacturers, Adeyeye urged lawmakers to enact stronger laws and the judiciary to impose severe punishments that reflect the gravity of the crime.
Unwavering in her mission, she said: “Fear is not part of my dictionary. I returned to Nigeria to serve, and I will not be intimidated.”
