FCTA Strengthens Vocational, Entrepreneurship Education in Public Schools

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reaffirmed its commitment to equipping students in public schools with vocational and entrepreneurial skills to foster innovation and self-reliance.

Speaking at the inauguration of the third edition of the Ladi Memorial Foundation National Sewing Championship in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary of the FCTA Education Secretariat, Mrs. Joy Okeke, emphasized the administration’s dedication to youth empowerment through practical skill acquisition.

She highlighted FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s strong support for vocational education as a tool for economic growth and self-sufficiency.

Okeke commended the organizers of the championship, describing the initiative as a beacon of hope for aspiring young entrepreneurs in Nigeria’s fashion industry.

She stressed that ongoing investments in skills development were essential for building an innovative and self-sustaining workforce.

Dr. Favour Edem-Nse, Director of the Department of Mass Education, underscored the role of vocational training in driving economic development, noting that the fashion industry remains a key player in job creation.

She assured continued partnership and technical support from the FCT Education Secretariat to sustain skill acquisition programs.

Similarly, Mr. Kolawole Olobashola, Director of Science, Technology, and Innovation, revealed plans to establish vocational knowledge centers across the six area councils of the FCT.

He described the initiative as a strategic move to mainstream technical education and create more opportunities for young talents.

With these efforts, the FCTA aims to strengthen vocational education, nurture entrepreneurship, and equip students with the skills needed to thrive in today’s economy.
