In a decisive move to curb rising insecurity, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), is set to establish a Central Command and Control Centre to enhance intelligence gathering and security response in Abuja.

FCTA’s Director of Security Services, Mr. Adamu Gwary, disclosed this on Wednesday, revealing that the centre—approved by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike—will integrate drones, CCTV cameras, and advanced surveillance technology to monitor and analyze security threats in real time.

A dedicated response unit will act swiftly on intelligence reports, ensuring a faster reaction to criminal activities.

This initiative, Gwary noted, aims to restore public confidence and encourage residents to share timely security information with authorities.

The minister has also secured presidential approval to construct 12 new police division offices—two in each area council—alongside housing units for officers, further strengthening security infrastructure.

Since assuming office in August 2023, Wike has aggressively tackled security concerns, providing patrol vehicles, communication-equipped motorcycles, and engaging communities to identify security priorities.

These interventions, according to Gwary, have led to a significant reduction in crime rates across the FCT.

With this hi-tech command centre set to revolutionize intelligence-sharing, Abuja’s security landscape is poised for a major transformation.
