The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has exceeded its revenue target for 2024, generating a record-breaking N262 billion, surpassing the projected N250 billion.
Acting Chairman of FCT-IRS, Michael Ango, made this known on Thursday during a tax sensitization roadshow in Abuja, where he urged residents to fulfill their tax obligations to support the government’s ongoing infrastructure development drive.
Ango further revealed a strong start to 2025, with N43.8 billion raised in January alone, positioning the service for another impressive year.
He noted that plans are underway to set up kiosk offices in markets and plazas across the FCT, complementing the existing 16 tax offices, to make tax payment easier and more accessible for residents.
He reminded residents that the first filing deadline for the year—January 31, 2025—marked the due date for employers’ annual tax returns.
He emphasized that taxation plays a crucial role in funding essential projects such as schools, hospitals, and roads, adding that the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development is heavily reliant on revenue generated through taxes.
Ango stated that in the last two years, the administration has prioritized infrastructure development, including road rehabilitation, school renovations, and hospital upgrades, stressing that tax payments are the backbone of these projects.
He reiterated that taxation remains a collective responsibility and that compliance from residents will enable the government to deliver more development initiatives.
He further highlighted that the FCT-IRS is expanding its revenue collection by focusing on various tax categories, including personal income tax, capital gains tax, stamp duties, property tax, and entertainment tax, which has become a key focus for 2025.
He also clarified that the FCT-IRS serves the entire Federal Capital Territory, collecting revenue on behalf of the FCT Administration, area councils, secretariats, departments, and agencies.
With a strong start to 2025, the FCT-IRS is determined to push beyond its past achievements, ensuring that every taxpayer’s contribution translates into visible development across Abuja.
