Thousands of residents in Gurfata community, Ibwa Ward, Gwagwalada Area Council, are battling severe water scarcity, relying on contaminated streams for survival, a situation fueling disease outbreaks and deaths.

Civic group MonitNG has called on FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Senator Ireti Kingibe to urgently address the crisis, warning that continued inaction could lead to more loss of lives.

“For decades, residents have suffered without boreholes or reliable wells. The government must act now to provide clean water, a basic human necessity,” MonitNG stated in a post on X.

Despite years of complaints and government neglect, the organisation is demanding the immediate drilling of boreholes and sustainable water solutions to end the suffering of over 5,000 residents.
