The Federal Government has launched a CCTV surveillance system to monitor activities on Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge, its ramps, and the Falomo area—all from Abuja—to enhance security and traffic management.

Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, announced the development during a stakeholder meeting on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.

The new system, modeled after the Second Niger Bridge surveillance setup, allows real-time monitoring to enforce traffic regulations and improve safety.

“We’ve extended rehabilitation works from the bridge to Falomo, installed streetlights, and deployed CCTV cameras. Whatever happens there, we’re watching from Abuja,” Umahi stated.

The initiative comes amid rising concerns over reckless driving on the newly rehabilitated bridge.

While speed bumps were considered, Umahi noted they could worsen traffic congestion. Instead, offenders will be tracked and penalized using CCTV footage.

This tech-driven measure complements broader infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving transportation efficiency, safety, and crime prevention on one of Lagos’ busiest routes.
