In a decisive move to strengthen security and create jobs, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), led by Minister Nyesom Wike, is nearing the completion of 12 divisional police stations and six-unit staff quarters across the six Area Councils of the FCT.
The ambitious infrastructure push, now 70% complete, is set to transform security in the capital while offering economic relief through job creation for local artisans and security personnel.
Speaking at the Saburi project site in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), project architect Nuhu Musa revealed that construction, which began on November 19, is ahead of schedule.
“Though designed as a year-long project, we’re on track to finish in six months thanks to strong community support and workforce dedication,” Musa said.
Engineer Ahmed Yahaya of Armodris Nigeria Limited, the project contractor, expressed satisfaction with the progress.
“Three months in, we’ve recorded no incidents. This initiative has been a blessing for residents, who continuously commend the Minister’s intervention,” Yahaya noted.
For locals like Prince Yahaya Mohammed, a Saburi resident and project supervisor, the benefits extend beyond security.
“This project has provided stable incomes for many here. We’re hopeful Saburi youths will be prioritized in future police recruitment,” he said.
Village Head of Saburi, Alhaji Muhammad Yamawo, praised the dual impact of improved security infrastructure and road development.
“The new Saburi-Dei Dei road has eased our struggles and allowed better police patrol coverage, enhancing safety,” Yamawo said.
FCTA’s Director of Security Services, Adamu Gwari, emphasized that the project reflects Wike’s strategic vision for a safer FCT.
“Originally planned for nine stations, three additional facilities were approved to ensure every Area Council receives two stations,” Gwari explained.
The initiative is already yielding results, with crime rates reportedly on a steady decline since the project’s inception.
As the completion date nears, residents and stakeholders eagerly await the positive transformation, cementing Wike’s reputation as a leader committed to action and results.
