Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Transportation has debunked claims of approving a high-speed Lagos-Abuja bullet train project.
In a statement from the ministry’s management in Abuja, officials labeled the report—widely circulated online—as false and baseless.
They clarified that although Geofocus Consortium proposed the project in 2016, the company has yet to meet key requirements, including proof of funding, for the project to proceed.
The ministry emphasized that no approval has been granted by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), and any claims of completed feasibility studies or secured funding are unfounded.
The ministry demanded an apology from Geofocus Consortium and urged Nigerians to disregard the misinformation.
It also advised media outlets to verify facts before publication.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to advancing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda in the transportation sector.
