A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and stop Governor Ademola Adeleke from proceeding with the planned local government election on Saturday, warning of potential violence.
Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Thursday, Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker and member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), argued that the election was unnecessary since there was no leadership vacuum at the local council level.
He cited the Court of Appeal’s judgment reinstating APC chairmen and councillors, insisting that any grievances should be resolved through the Supreme Court rather than a fresh election.
He further pointed to the recent loss of six lives in different council areas and multiple injuries as strong reasons to halt the poll, stressing that the state government must prioritize the safety of its citizens over political interests.
“The lives of Osun people should not be put at risk in the name of politics. The president must prevail on Governor Adeleke to suspend the election for security reasons,” Oyintiloye stated.
While commending security agencies for their swift intervention in restoring peace, he urged APC members to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
He also condoled with the families of those who lost loved ones in the recent unrest, calling for calm across the state.
