Seven years after her abduction by Boko Haram on February 19, 2018, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has once again demanded the immediate release of Leah Sharibu, who remains in captivity for refusing to renounce her Christian faith.
In a statement issued on February 20, 2025, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, described Leah’s continued imprisonment as a painful reminder of the nation’s ongoing security crisis.
He praised her unwavering faith and courage, calling her a symbol of resilience and hope for millions across Nigeria and beyond.
CAN urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts to secure Leah’s freedom and demanded stronger action from security agencies to end the reign of terror that has plagued the nation.
The association also appealed to the international community to amplify calls for her release and support Nigeria in its fight against terrorism.
“We cannot remain silent while Leah suffers for her faith. Every effort must be made to bring her home,” Archbishop Okoh emphasized, urging Christians and all Nigerians to unite in prayer and advocacy for Leah and others still in captivity.
CAN reaffirmed its commitment to championing justice, peace, and the protection of human rights, vowing to continue supporting Leah’s family until she is safely reunited with her loved ones.
