The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has confirmed a power outage affecting several parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), attributing the disruption to the vandalization of conductors on the 132-kilovolt (KV) Katampe-Central Area Transmission Station Lines 1 and 2.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, AEDC said the vandalism has plunged key areas—including Wuye, Utako, Jabi District, Wuse Zones 1-7, Areas 1, 2, 3, 7, and 8, Maitama, parts of the Central Business District (CBD), Durumi, and surrounding neighborhoods—into darkness.
The company expressed regret over the inconvenience and assured customers that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is working to restore power. However, no specific timeline was given.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused by the ongoing power supply disruption.
“This is due to the vandalization of conductors on the 132KV Katampe-Central Area TS Lines 1 & 2.
“While restoration efforts are underway, load shedding will continue across affected feeders to manage available capacity,” AEDC stated.
The DisCo added that it is collaborating with TCN and other stakeholders to ensure a swift resolution.
This development comes weeks after a similar act of vandalism targeted a 132KV underground cable, cutting bulk electricity supply to the Central Area Transmission Substation—an incident that plunged the Presidential Villa and 60% of Abuja into darkness.
The recurring vandalism of critical power infrastructure has sparked concerns over electricity security, with AEDC urging the public to report suspicious activities around power installations to prevent further disruptions.
