Long queues have reappeared at MRS petrol stations in Lagos following a viral video comparing fuel performance from Dangote Refinery and NNPC.

The video, shared on Tuesday by tech content creator Olatunde Shobajo (Valor Reviews), demonstrated that a generator powered by Dangote fuel ran for 30 minutes and 51 seconds compared to 17 minutes and 51 seconds on NNPC fuel—a 13-minute difference.

Critics have seized on the test to question NNPC’s market practices, but NNPC has dismissed the video as misleading.

A spokesperson clarified that both fuels tested were sourced from Dangote Refinery, a strategic partner of NNPC, and affirmed adherence to strict quality standards.

The company also warned of legal action against those spreading what it deems false information.

The incident underscores the intense competition in Nigeria’s fuel market and the impact of social media on consumer behavior.
