The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has dismissed reports that it imported over 200 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), in February 2025, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, NNPC denounced the allegation as a reckless misrepresentation, attributing it to either poor journalism or a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.
The company clarified that it has not imported any PMS in 2025 and does not regulate private marketers’ import activities.
However, it reaffirmed its right to import fuel if necessary to maintain market stability.
NNPC cautioned against the spread of misinformation, emphasizing the potential to mislead industry stakeholders.
It also warned that legal action would be taken against those responsible for disseminating fabricated reports.
