The long-anticipated Lagos-Abuja high-speed bullet train is moving closer to reality, with feasibility studies completed and proof of funds secured, according to Geofocus Consortium, the project’s lead developer.

Engineer Yinka Idris, Director of Operations at Geofocus Consortium, revealed that the project now awaits approval from the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) before construction begins.

The rail system, expected to be completed within 48 to 52 months, will slash travel time between Lagos and Abuja from 12 hours to just 2–3 hours.

Beyond transportation, the initiative includes ten smart cities along the rail corridor, each featuring 10,000 housing units, and an independent power plant (IPP) to support operations.

The project is expected to ease movement, boost trade, create jobs, reduce road congestion, and cut carbon emissions, ultimately extending the lifespan of Nigeria’s highways.
