The Lagos State House of Assembly has suspended plenary indefinitely following a security breach at its premises on Monday.

Tensions escalated when operatives, reportedly from the State Security Service (SSS), entered the assembly complex and locked the Deputy Speaker’s office before the session commenced.

This triggered a confrontation between lawmakers and security personnel, with legislators eventually regaining access.

During the plenary, lawmakers strongly condemned the breach, passed a vote of confidence in Speaker Mojisola Meranda, and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Their findings will be presented to President Bola Tinubu and SSS Director General Oluwatosin Ajayi.

Presiding over the session, Meranda—who became the first female Speaker of the Lagos Assembly on January 13, 2025, following the removal of Mudashiru Obasa—reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to upholding its independence and integrity.
