Security operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday, sealing the offices of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, her deputy, and the clerk in a dramatic early-morning operation.
By 10 a.m., armed personnel had taken control of the Alausa, Ikeja premises, conducting security checks on all passersby. Despite the tension, Meranda arrived with her convoy at about 11:15 a.m.
The operation follows a legal battle by former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who was ousted on January 13, 2025, when 32 out of 40 lawmakers voted for his removal.
Obasa, who held the position for a decade, has challenged the decision in court, seeking immediate reinstatement.
The crisis has divided Lagos APC’s Governance Advisory Council (GAC), with party leaders split over Obasa’s removal, fueling further political uncertainty in the state.
