Taiwan has appealed to the Nigerian government to relocate its Mission Office from Lagos to Abuja to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties.
Andy Yih-Ping Liu, Taiwan’s Head of Mission in Nigeria, made the call during a media roundtable in Abuja, emphasizing Taiwan’s expertise in agriculture, mineral resources, and energy.
He assured that Taiwan operates transparently and does not engage in illegal mining or unethical deals.
The office was moved to Lagos in 2017 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, despite most foreign missions being in Abuja.
Liu urged President Bola Tinubu to reverse this, reaffirming Nigeria’s sovereignty as Africa’s largest democracy.
He also pushed for a new Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (IPPA), and the revival of a 1991 bilateral pact to attract Taiwanese investments.
Meanwhile, House Committee Chair Inuwa Garba highlighted the need for stronger collaboration with Taiwan in science, technology, and engineering to drive Nigeria’s economic growth.
