The Defence Headquarters has urged Nigerians to ignore “malicious allegations” surrounding the military’s visa requests for the Invictus Games in Vancouver, Canada, and instead focus on supporting efforts to enhance national security and troop welfare.
In a statement on Monday, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, addressed concerns over visa denials that affected the military’s participation.
Despite an invitation for 25 team members, only 14 received visas, preventing seven key athletes from competing.
Gusau praised the team’s resilience, noting that Nigeria still secured gold, silver, and bronze medals at the Games.
He also credited Gen. Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, for boosting troop morale and spearheading the establishment of Africa’s first Invictus Foundation Centre to support wounded personnel.
Reaffirming the military’s commitment to service members’ welfare, Gusau called on Nigerians to stand behind their armed forces.
