The federal government has launched an investigation into the alleged hoarding of relief materials meant for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), after discovering food and non-food supplies stockpiled inside classrooms at the Durumi IDP camp in Abuja.

The Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Aliyu Ahmed, made the revelation during an inspection at the camp while inaugurating a computer center donated by the Brand Life Vision Foundation.

Ahmed condemned the situation, vowing severe action against those responsible. “We will not tolerate this. These materials were meant for the IDPs, not to be locked away,” he stated.

He also announced plans to expand the probe to other IDP camps nationwide, warning that similar irregularities could be widespread.

Meanwhile, the commission reaffirmed its commitment to supporting IDPs, including efforts to provide teachers for displaced children in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission.

In a related development, the founder of Brightlife Vision Foundation, Hajia Binta Sidi, disclosed plans to train 1,000 IDPs across the country, emphasizing her foundation’s focus on empowering underprivileged individuals.
