Church Calls for Unconditional Release of Kidnapped Priest, Others

The Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt has called for the unconditional release of Rev. Fr. Livinus Maurice, who was abducted alongside two others by gunmen in Rivers State.

Fr. Maurice, the Parish Priest of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Isokpo, was kidnapped on February 12 along the Elele-Isiokpo Road while returning from a hospital visit.

The identities of the two other abducted individuals remain unknown.

In a statement on Saturday, the Diocese urged intensified prayers for their safe return.

Rev. Fr. Bernadine Anaele, Diocesan Chancellor, confirmed that the police and security agencies have been alerted.

On her part, the State police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko assured the public that an investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
