A health worker, Akinola Oyabiyi, was shot dead by unknown gunmen near Akure Airport in Eleyowo, Ondo State, in what is suspected to be a failed kidnapping attempt.
The 46-year-old was attacked Tuesday evening while driving home when assailants emerged from the bush and shot him in the belly.
He died shortly after, according to a family member.
State Police PRO, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is underway.
The killing adds to a wave of violent attacks in the area, including recent abductions and multiple farm worker killings.
