The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Sector Command, has confirmed the death of 16 persons and injuries to 52 others in a road crash on Friday at the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange Flyover in Hotoro, Kano.
The accident involved a trailer DAF carrying goods and 71 passengers, which lost control due to overspeeding, according to a preliminary report.
The FRSC, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, quickly responded to the scene for rescue operations, and the injured were taken to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital for treatment.
The Sector Commander, CC UM Matazu, has dispatched an investigation team to probe the incident.
He also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a swift recovery.
Matazu urged all motorists to adhere to traffic laws and cautioned against overloading vehicles, stressing that such practices increase the risk of fatal crashes.
