The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has warned that it will shut down telecom giants MTN, Airtel, and Glo nationwide if they fail to revert to the old tariff by the end of February 2025.

At a Central Working Committee (CWC), meeting in Lokoja, Kogi State, the NLC, in a communiqué signed by President Joe Ajaero and General Secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja, condemned the recent tariff hike, calling it an unjustified move worsening economic hardship.

As a warning shot, the NLC has directed workers and Nigerians to boycott telecom services daily from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM starting February 13 until the end of the month.

It also urged the public to stop purchasing data from these companies, citing concerns over exploitation.

“If the telecom companies fail to revert to the old tariff by February 29, a nationwide shutdown of their operations will begin from March 1,” the statement read.

The NLC has also instructed all state councils and affiliate unions to begin mass sensitization and mobilization to ensure widespread participation.
